Made By Us

The challenge: Today, younger generations are more engaged—and more needed—than ever before to shape the next chapter of our nation’s future. And yet, their interest in historic institutions, as well as their understanding of how government and democracy work, is on the wane. The nation’s leading history institutions decided it was critical to work together to empower these generations with new experiences they could co-create.

The solution: At the highest level, the Made By Us team is experimenting with innovative ways to use history to inspire civic participation—pioneering new formats for how history can be presented in relevant, real-time, accessible, and actionable ways to reach broader audiences where they are. So far, this includes a digital platform, programs, initiatives, and experiences. As the needs of our audience evolve over time, we will work responsively to develop and refine everything we produce.

My role: The team asked me to bring the brand book to life through web copy for the main website and the first interactive initiative, My Wish for Us. I also created messaging guidelines, talking points, a press kit, and one-sheets to ensure participants across dozens of institutions broadcast the same key messages. For every aspect of this effort, I asked myself, how might I tell this story in a way that’s accessible and relatable and inspires people to act?
